Boston to Host International Mayors Climate Summit

Boston University will host the “International Mayors Climate Summit” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. The summit hopes to address the rising challenges present by a shifting climate, incorporating individuals from both the public and private sector. More specifically the goal of the summit is to create strategies that “reduce greenhouse gas emission, and how to prepare for the impacts of climate change,” said Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s office in a statement. Mayors from Canada, England, and France will join their American counterparts at the summit. Notable speakers include former U.S. Senator and Secretary of State John Kerry, President Obama’s EPA chief Gina McCarthy, Bank of America vice chairman Anne Finucane, and Zipcar president Tracey Zhen. Boston is no stranger to the effects of climate change. Following the Bomb Cyclone earlier this year, many streets in the Seaport were flooded and “a dumpster was floating down Seaport Boulevard in South Boston,” says Mayor Walsh. The summit will be live streamed starting Thursday morning. Watch stream here. Source: Mass Live
