Spain’s political parties introduced a $1.2 billion five-year program that intends to tackle gender-based violence on Tuesday. Between 2003 and 2016 more than 870 women died from gender-based violence and at least 31 have died already this year.
The program will provide victims with six months unconditional unemployment benefits and will not allow imprisoned abusers form being visited by their children. The program featured 200 measures, which included: school curriculums about sexism and feminism, children orphans granted priority access to state benefits, and measures for identifying victims of gender-based violence.
