Republicans narrowly approved the motion to begin debating repealing and replacing Obamacare Tuesday afternoon, needing Vice President Mike Pence as the tie-breaker.
In the coming days, senators will debate on passage of legislation that would make significant changes to Obamacare and a “skinny bill” measure that would make fewer changes to the existing law. A skinny bill, which is the Republicans best chance at passing healthcare, would repeal the ACA’s mandates that both individuals buy plans and that employers with 50 or more employees provide coverage.
Democrats in the Senate need to vigorously debate and persuade any Republicans on the fence (Shelley Capito, Rand Paul and Dean Heller) in order to ensure Mitch McConnell (R-KY) doesn’t have the opportunity to pass legislation or repeal Obamacare which has given millions of Americans healthcare.
