Israel to Remove Metal Detectors from Holy Site

A loud outcry from Palestine and Jordan have led to the removal of metal detectors from outside a holy site in East Jerusalem on Tuesday. Israel said the extra security was necessary to prevent weapons from being smuggled in, but worshippers saw this as a move by Israel to assert further control over the holy site. It is also possible that Israel agreed to remove the metal detectors in return for Jordan letting the Israeli embassy staff leave the country following a diplomatic stand-off.

The holy site is known as The Temple Mont and Haram al-Sharif, which is revered by Jews as the location of two Biblical Temples and is the third holiest site in Islam.
