White House Supports Russia Sanctions Bill

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Sunday that the Trump administration supports the new legislation to punish Russia for its meddling in the 2016 presidential election. “The administration is supportive of being tough on Russia, particularly in putting these sanctions in place,” Sanders said. Initially, the White House spoke out against the sanctions bill because it would “inappropriately infringe on the president’s ability to direct foreign policy.” Contradictory to Sander’s comments, new communications director Anthony Scaramucci said the president has not made up his mind whether to sign the piece of legislation. If Trump decides to back the bill, one could argue that it is a ploy to seem tough on Russia because of recent links of collusion between his administration and the Kremlin.
