President Trump is expected to nominate prominent coal lobbyist and former Senate aide, Andrew Wheeler, to serve as the EPA’s deputy administrator. Wheeler is a lobbyist for coal giant Murray Energy and served as a top aide for Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) when Inhofe chaired the Senate Environment Committee. Wheeler has been an outspoken critic of nationwide limits on greenhouse-gas emissions, as well as scientific bodies such as the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Wheeler wants to “allow legislators to craft sensible energy policy that can promote energy independence without killing our domestic production of fossil fuels.” The EPA as we know it has turned into a disbeliever of climate change and strives to prioritize making money over the well-being of the planet.
